A Major Proposed Development Project At The
Wilshire Federal Building Threatens To Gridlock Los
Angeles Traffic
The federal government wants to build a new 1,000,000
square foot FBI headquarters on the federal building property.
A coalition of business groups, 300,000 residents and
numerous associations have joined together to fight this project, preserve
Veterans’ land (the 386 acre VA campus, Army Reserve at Federal
and Wilshire, and the Federal Building site) exclusively for direct
services to Veterans and to prevent any federal expansion or
intensification on the Federal Building site.
The primary concerns with the project are:
Dramatic increases in Westside and regional traffic. This
includes traffic on Wilshire and the 405. As we all know, increased
traffic on the 405 impacts all Westside AND Valley traffic. If you drive
around or through the Westside, this will impact you.
Increased security risks. West L.A. residents already have to
deal with protests. With the increasing security concerns in the
country, placing a new hardened security target in a densely populated
area which is next to a park, numerous "soft" targets and a major
freeway simply makes no sense.
Impacts on the local community will be significant.
This
includes construction and ongoing air quality issues for local residents
and on children who visit the Westwood Recreation Center.
